Writing and Reading

I find lately that I have less energy for reading than I used to. My to-read list is at an all-time high, but fewer books make me excited.

I've heard other authors talk about something similar, which leads me to believe that this is a phase many of us go through: when you spend so much time on your own stories, it's harder to invest the energy into someone else's. If it is a phase, I hope it passes quickly, as reading is one of the great joys of my life.

Once I find a book that does suck me in, I'll still burn through it in my usual voracious style. But without that level of interest, even books that I normally would have finished and enjoyed languish on my to-read shelf, or have to get returned to the library before I'm even a third of the way through.

What books have you read that grabbed you by the short hairs and wouldn't let go?

Reading

Still haven't been able to get the pictures off my phone. Will have a great post once that happens. Hopefully next week.

Books are a sickness and lately I've been having a relapse. I'm listening to two audiobooks at work, The Prestige and How to Win Friends and Influence People. We're listening to A Storm of Swords in the car on the way to and from work.

I have twelve books out from the library, including three books on Constantinople, one on the dark ages, one on Mehmet II, The Forgotten Founding Father, The Gray Man, two books on blogging, Podcasting for Dummies, How to Be Your Own Literary Agent, and The Writer's Journey.

I also have a bunch of books I recently ordered online that I'm dying to read. Plus at least three shelves-worth of books I already own that I either haven't finished or haven't started.

And what did I do yesterday while out running errands?

Stop at the used book store, of course.

100 Words About: Too Many Books!

I have an impressive stack of books to read at the best of times, but right now my to-read pile is getting out of control! Ever since I started listening to podcasts, I have more authors that I want to read or listen to than I know what to do with. I keep hearing about all of these great books…

And the research! Between the research I'm doing for the Encore expansion and my NaNoWriMo project, plus everything I'm reading about writing, podcasting, public domain, and physics (for world-building), not to mention all the Mythos stuff I just finished (joy!) for the last short story I did, I don't know when I'm going to get to the authors I'm already trying to follow. Heck, I still haven't read the 12th Wheel of Time book, and the 13th is coming out in two months! What's a girl to do?

100 Words About: Reading

Too many books, not enough time. I have two stacks three feet high of books to read, and I keep picking up more. I'm seriously considering an Audible membership so I can listen to books on the way to work. (They take forever to become available at the library.) I'm already trying to find more time so I can go to the gym and write every day—where will I fit in my reading? How do you balance it all, dear readers? Leave a comment and let me know!
